Mathilde Monnier - Centre Chorégraph. Nat. de Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon
Publique
For almost twenty years now, Mathilde Monnier has been exploring unusual aspects of movement, like a veritable archaeologist of the soul and the body. In each new production, she dismantles matter to arrive at a new approach. Whatever she focuses on, from social isolation, through being the odd one out, to mass behaviour, she always develops a body language that expresses her view of today's world. Monnier's choreographic works both reflect contemporary society and throw a poetic light on it. 'Publique', the first part of a diptych, starts out from experiences of dancing, both in the rehearsal studio and in other places, public and private, wherever people dance (concerts, parties, clubs, people's homes). The emphasis is on pleasure - both the pleasure of watching and that of being watched. The penetrating voice of the British rock singer PJ Harvey provides the backdrop.
