BLESSED
Meg Stuart and Francisco Camacho first worked together on Meg Stuart’s debut performance ‘Disfigure Study’ in 1991. Their second creation, ‘BLESSED’ (2007) is still part of Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods’ active repertoire.
At the start you see a man in between three pieces of cardboard scenery: a small hut, a palm tree and a swan. He moves carefully and woodenly, but apart from that all seems peaceful in this distilled paradise. Until suddenly a shower of rain escalates into a destructive flash flood. The man desperately clings to a world that lies in ruins. The main elements are melancholy and the struggle to survive. At the click of a finger, our world of artificial gadgets, role models and keeping up appearances is overthrown by unpredictable and primitive forces. With musical accompaniment by the American composer Hahn Rowe, ‘BLESSED’ sketches out the slow demise of an illusion.
