1h Lessons for Cadavers by the emerging talent Michelle Moura, balances in the twilight zone between life and death. Based on personal stories, handbooks that guide people through their dying process and historical dances, the choreographer brings the dead back to life in an archaeological choreography. Together with two performers, in this rite of passage she explores a state between life and lifelessness. Which people in our society are condemned to a such a position as ‘walking dead’? For Moura, who hails from Brazil where the extreme right president Bolsonaro deploys violence against the most vulnerable citizens on a daily basis, this is a political question. Necropolitics - or the authority to judge who may live or die - is the must ultimate form of power today, suggested the philosopher Achille Mbembe. What can death teach us about life in a complex world? A co-production from DE SINGEL to look forward to.
