Michiel Vandevelde

Following his striking solo ‘Andrade’ for Bryana Fritz in deSingel’s entrance hall, Michiel Vandevelde is returning with a choreography for four dancers. Can we say something about the future, whilst looking through the lens of what is past? In ‘Ends of Worlds’ Vandevelde explores this through Western modern and contemporary dance: how will the ‘new people’ later interpret the work of Isadora Duncan, Steve Paxton or Anna Halprin? We are living in the year 0.2300. The bodies of the dancers are cloned homines sapientes. The theatre: a historical reconstruction. The dance: an evocation of a past spacetime construction. In five parts about the past from the perspective of the future, the present inevitably features too. Choreography becomes science fiction.
