The image of the man falling from the Twin Towers has been etched into our memory since 9/11. The strange calm with which this man jumped to his death also made an indelible impression on the French-Algerian choreographer Nacera Belaza. How can someone be so serene in the midst of so much violence? This inspired Belaza to create a choreography that transforms the act of falling into dance. Losing our balance causes us anxiety because we lose control. However, Belaza believes that in the disappearance of resistance, there also lies a source of freedom. The falling man no longer seems to be resisting, he accepts the inevitable, its cruelty notwithstanding. Nacera Belaza enjoys international renown for her sober and introspective work with a huge sensorial impact. Music, light and the bodies of the dancers merge in a captivating visual display.
