1h 30' Peeping Tom’s theatre of movement, which is often performed in a grotesque set, exposes worlds in which the prevailing logic of time and space is distorted. Realism and Surrealism, the banal and the mysterious reach out to each other. Indeed, ‘A Louer’, performed at deSingel to great acclaim in April 2013, was described by one reviewer as ‘Escher on stage.’ As in a thriller, the tension builds up, culminating in surprisingly burlesque scenes of poetic reverie. There are frequent reminders of the oppressive atmosphere of David Lynch’s work. The ensemble headed by the directing duo Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier, consisting of diverse and atypical performers, has been reinforced by Leo De Beul since 2011. He plays the lead role in ‘Vader’, the first part of a family trilogy.
Father lives in a nursing home where he gives himself up to memories. His fellow residents form a strange sort of Greek chorus that occasionally erupts into word and song. When the children come to visit, this is the start of the hour of truth. Are we heading for a catharsis? It is high time to push tables and chairs to the side and dance!
