2h 45' The late Pina Bausch. This monument in the history of contemporary dance died in 2009. In 1973 she founded the Tanztheater Wuppertal. Steadily the company began on an international career that was unstoppable. The combination of poetic and everyday elements had a major influence on many generations in and outside the dance scene all over the world. On her death three years ago, her companions, the dancer Dominique Mercy and playwright Robert Sturm, took over the artistic leadership.
'Ten Chi' was created in 2004 after a residence in Tokyo. In a large part of the performance snowflakes float down onto the seventeen dancers, who explore the stereotypes and paradoxes of contemporary Japan with empathy and humour. The dance, which has strikingly sensual solos, is given its rhythm by Japanese kodo music as well as the wistful vocals of Robert Wyatt and many others. Incomparable older performers such as Mechthild Grossmann and Nazareth Panadero recite the text by Brecht, Büchner and others.
