Spanish choreographer Rocío Molina injects traditional flamenco with a massive dose of avant-garde bravado. Her work enjoys international acclaim, and she was awarded the Silver Lion during the 2022 Venice Biennale.
In Carnación she explores the duality of desire in a series of dreamlike images. The title alludes to the flesh colour with which parts of the human body were coloured in on old coats of arms. At the same time, the word is linked to the Biblical idea of incarnation. To a soundtrack of sacred and electronic music, religious and grotesque images alternate. Carnación captures the raw energy of desire in a dark beauty and thus reminds us of the vulnerability of the human condition.
Carnación comes to life in collaboration with Nino de Elche, a true giant in the world of contemporary flamenco music. In May there is also a solo concert by him on the programme, an unmissable date for fans of innovative flamenco.
