Sasha Waltz - Schaubühne Am Lehniner Platz
Impromptus
Franz Schubert composed his piano cycle Impromptus, with its 'leitmotiv' of an unfulfilled desire for happiness and harmony, in 1827. This was a year before his death, in the final but highly creative phase of his life, and these piano sonatas are among the finest he ever wrote. He conceived them as individual pieces that could be played either independently or together. Sasha Waltz chose this classic from the Romantic repertoire as the starting point for an intimate choreography performed by seven dancers. In 'Impromptus', the theatricality of her previous productions retires into the background, making way for pure dance. The atmosphere is subdued, romantic and melancholy. Aesthetics, simplicity and abstraction dominate. Three intimate duets contrast with dynamic group passages, which at some points are accompanied by Schubert songs sung live. It covers the whole register of spontaneous feelings and changing moods, from profound melancholy to pure joy.
PLEASE NOTE! This performance replaces 'Insideout', a location project that has been postponed for technical reasons.
