1h 30' After 'Faun' on the opening weekend and the world premiere of 'Play', choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui will appear with his Eastman company for a third time this season. 'Babel' is the final part of an impressive trilogy whose first two parts, 'Foi' and 'Myth', have already been staged at deSingel. This time the internationally celebrated choreographer will work closely with the dancer and choreographer Damien Jalet, who has been his artistic associate from the very start. 'Babel' is based on the notion: what if the Babylonians had succeeded in building their famous tower? What would have happened to mankind if they had realised their ambition to reach heaven? Are we not told that pride is soon followed by a fall? Man in search of the divine is a constant in Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's work. In it he focuses mainly on the confusion that can accompany this search. Man's ability or inability to understand other people plays a central role in the story of Babel. Language is crucial. It is the driving force behind all human interaction - whether it is in the form of words or physical gestures. In 'Babel', the dancers' language of movement - an eclectic mixture of styles - tries to find a way for itself through a soundscape of voices.
