Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui & Eastman

As his starting point for ‘Fractus V’, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui took ‘Fractus’, a short dance trio that he created to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. In it, Cherkaoui searched for new primary movements on the peripheries of the tribal and folkloric. At the same time, a text by Noam Chomsky underlined the rupture between the individual and the knowledge society. ‘Fractus V’ is performed by five male dancers with different nationalities and backgrounds, including the choreographer himself. Their dance training is highly diverse, ranging from lindy hop to flamenco, hip hop and breakdance. They embody the ‘otherness’ that leads to violent conflicts. And yet there is hope: ultimately the dancers will unite to form a single resilient body. A dance performance that is more topical than ever!
