The product of a Flemish mother and a Moroccan father, Sidi Larbi constantly looks for universal themes against the background of various cultures and religions. His starting point this time is trauma. How do people deal with terrible events in their lives? What changes do they bring about? Can disaster be a building block for a promising future? Is it true that people who have survived a disaster develop second sight? Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui translates these questions and thoughts into a choreography in which he examines what happens when a dancer uses his shadow as a starting point. Larbi's exceptional talent as a dancer and choreographer was noticed very early in his life by Alain Platel. Through him Larbi was given the space to develop his own work both under and outside the umbrella of Les Ballets C. de la B. Consequently, five highly diverse productions have been staged in deSingel so far. All of them have been distinguished by a musical poetry, topical content and virtuoso dance. In his new creation he abandons the nest and spreads his own wings. Under the roof of Het Toneelhuis he will have to face new challenges. deSingel is only too happy to participate.
