Trisha Brown Dance Company
In 2005, the American choreographer Trisha Brown is celebrating the thirty-fifth anniversary of her company, which has maintained close relations with deSingel for the last twenty years. Her work is a rare mixture of rigorous method and poetry, and a silent plea for unlimited freedom of the imagination. The programme we are presenting to mark the occasion comprises both older and new choreographic pieces. First, there are two productions never previously performed at deSingel: 'How long does the subject linger on the edge of the volume', a European première, and 'Present Tense', the Belgian première of a 2003 work set to 'prepared' piano music by John Cage, plus some short fragments from a choreographic work done in 1986 for Lina Wertmüller's opera production of 'Carmen'. The repertoire section is conceived as an homage to the artist Robert Rauschenberg, with whom Trisha Brown developed intense artistic collaboration. Their joint productions include 'Glacial Decoy' (1979), her first choreography for the traditional stage, and 'Astral Convertible' (1989).
