55' The meeting of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Wim Vandekeybus at the Festival of Avignon resulted in the solo performance 'it' inspired by 'The Circular Valley', a short story by Paul Bowles. The creation took place in the context of 'Le Vif du Sujet', a project where a dancer asks a choreographer of his choosing to create a solo of thirty minutes for him. 'it' turned into a cross-pollination between the two choreographers' succinctly different vocabularies of movement. A dance, often assembled with normal gestures and movements, which pushes beyond the limitations of physical instinct into the danger zone. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui dances with extreme suppleness, writhing like a contortionist or sitting motionlessly on a high pole. Here a donkey joins him. It seemed as if the beast was recanting Bowles' text. Actually, you are hearing the voice of the actor Benoît Gob. This fluke performance has grown into a fully-fledged stage production, the donkey is again present but this time in the film takes of Wim Vandekeybus.
