Hands do not touch your precious Me
'A dialogue between the universes of Wim Vandekeybus, Olivier de Sagazan and Charo Calvo'
In his now extensive oeuvre, Wim Vandekeybus likes to refer to mythological stories. The mysterious title of his new performance alludes to the line from a 4000-year-old Sumerian legend about the goddess Inanna, a divine being who symbolises the paradoxes of human existence. From it Vandekeybus extracts a contemporary tale about death and rebirth, light and darkness, confrontation and transformation. Partners in crime are composer Charo Calvo and visual artist Olivier de Sagazan, who will also be on stage himself for the first time. With clay, paint and flax twine, he models the bodies of the dancers into monstrous sculptures that blur the boundaries between human, animal and material. A perfect match for Vandekeybus’ impulsive and instinctive movement language. Together they create a world that is as utopian as it is horrible, as powerful as it is vulnerable. What passions lie hidden beneath civilisation?
