Wim Vandekeybus & Ultima Vez
Mockumentary of a Contemporary Saviour
After the explosive emotions of ‘Speak Low If You Speak Love’ last season, deSingel is coproducing Wim Vandekeybus’ latest dance performance – about imagination, freedom and superstition.
In ‘Mockumentary of a Contemporary Saviour’, he paints a penetrating portrait of a fictitious Messiah through seven characters – as always with gripping images. Humanity is at a turning point. Somewhere in a futuristic world, a destructive force is already trying to eradicate life on earth. With the help of a child, a few people succeed in finding a safe haven. But because they are only human, conflicts also arise. Cultural differences, impulses and instincts are driven to the extreme. Nothing is what it seems in this piece of science fiction, in which utopia and dystopia intertwine and encourage reflection on our current society.
These performances were originally planned for 19, 20 and 21 October. However, building work on the fly-tower in the Red Hall has been unexpectedly delayed and as a result we have had to postpone the performances until 20, 21 and 22 December. We apologise and hope you will forgive us for this inconvenience.
