Wim Vandekeybus - Ultima Vez

Music is a driving factor in the work of choreographer Wim Vandekeybus: "Music brings you to life. Goes straight to your chakras. Whatever you do, it affects you. Music is nutritious, just like water and the sun. It is even more spiritual than water. You can see water. Not music. It is all-encompassing." Each musical composition is developed in parallel with the creative process of the performances. In the past, big international names such as David Byrne, Marc Ribot and David Eugene Edwards have worked with him, as well as leading Belgian musicians such as the guitarists Mauro Pawlowski and Elko Blijweert, drummer Jeroen Stevens and legendary bluesman Roland Van Campenhout.
With the latter four musicians and appearing on stage himself supported by fifteen fantastic dancers, Vandekeybus is now presenting a total spectacle called ‘Spiritual Unity’. This is a vibrant, swinging dance with choreography and compositions from the recent ‘booty Looting’, the youth performance ‘Radical Wrong’, the mythical epic ‘Oedipus / bêt noir’, the poetic ‘IT 3.0’, the film performance ‘Monkey Sandwich’ and the instinctive ‘nieuwZwart’. Don’t expect a summary or a ‘greatest hits’, but an atmospheric fusion of music and movement that takes you on a journey through five years of Ultima Vez. A performance full of pure physical joy, a purification of body and soul and a direct hit at the start of the new season. Followed by an opening party.
