1h 30' Wim Vandekeybus will be turning back the clock twenty-five years, in a return to his choreographic roots. 'What the body does not remember', his début work from 1987, is typical of his purely physical dance style. This astonishing first work was an immediate international hit. The energy contained in this piece is phenomenal, and it hits you like a primal scream, like a continuous tackling of the ultimate, final moment. The body is simultaneously a conduit for tension, danger and suppleness. The title alludes to the fraction of a moment in which even the memory does not have time to react. Instead, instinct takes over. This dance performance is both combative and liberating. The pulsating, rhythmic composition by Thierry De Mey and Peter Vermeersch is related to repetitive music, and its rhythm regularly contrasts with the dancers' movements. Now, some fifteen years after the production was first staged at deSingel, you will have the chance to (re) watch this legendary performance, this time with a new cast. And as the cherry on the cake, there will be live music, performed by Ictus's eleven musicians.
