Discover Julianknxx's Chorus In Rememory of Flight, a groundbreaking video installation in DE SINGEL's Expo Hall. Immerse yourself in a moving multi-screen film experience, born out of a year of meetings with choirs, performers, activists and leading figures from black communities across Europe.
Julianknxx's polyphonic art practice, rooted in poetry, invites new perspectives on history and black culture, and encourages reflection on the place of the global black diaspora.
Chorus, Remembrance in Flight highlights a journey of more than 4,000 kilometres and was captured in Hamburg, Berlin, Marseille, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Barcelona, Lisbon, London and Antwerp. All cities with a distinct relationship to colonisation. The images offer a profound insight into the life experiences of the black communities that call them home.
In 2023, Julianknxx was already on the Red hall stage, performing with a locally assembled Congolese choir led by Didier Likeng with support of Junior Akwety. Footage of the choir and a Lingala vocal solo by Akwety were included in the film installation.
Book
An illustrated book, designed by Zak Group, is available to accompany the exhibition with an essay by Ekow Eshun and an interview with Julianknxx.
