Radiant Nights #8
TURNING THE BUILDING INSIDE OUT
Tue 02 May 2023 - Sun 07 May 2023
With Radiant Nights, we lift the veil on the arts landscape of tomorrow. The eighth edition is subtitled: TURNING THE BUILDING INSIDE OUT. Four artists challenge normative views of the public space and public institutions. We’re chiefly utilising DE SINGEL’s outdoor space for a sultry programme in the inner courtyard.
Theatre maker and curator Pankaj Tiwari will be installing TENT: A School of Performative Practices. This initiative originated as a reaction to the closed walls of white institutions. In the tent, four artists share their artistic work in short presentations, while you tuck into a delicious (free) meal.
At the same time, P.A.R.T.S. alumnus Renato Miskolczi explores the space between installation and performance in his breakneck vertical creation FLIES. Three dancers are suspended from a wall by rope and move in this unlikely set-up. An invitation to view the world from a different perspective.
Ramos Sama & Younes Van Den Broeck (AKA Spitler) develop artistic work from the new art movement known as fokovism. It is their response to the often absurd artistic pigeon-holes into which an artist must fit.
The evening ends with a performance inspired by the lucha libre. Choreographer Thais di Marco mastered the codes of Mexican wrestling culture in order to criticise neoliberalism and the free market from that battlefield. Following this intensive performance, you can let off steam on the dancefloor at a Queer Brazilian dance party.
