Fahmi Alqhai, son of a Syrian and a Palestinian, grew up in Seville and breathes in the musical melting pot of Andalucia. As one of today’s most brilliant and celebrated gambists, he explores the boundaries of early music along with his expressive Accademia del Piacere. Together they bring the music of Andalucia to life with improvisation, passion and virtuosity.
The programme links old Spanish masters such as Diego Ortiz and Gaspar Sanz to the dashing energy of flamenco and free improvisation. With the captivating voices of the Tunisian diva Ghalia Benali and Spanish soprano Quiteria Muñoz, they blur the boundaries between East and West, past and present.
