Accademia del Piacere olv. Fahmi Alqhai

In 2016 the Flamenco Biënnale in Seville commissioned gambist Fahmi Alqhai and flamenco singer Rocío Márquez to create this programme, which looks for the interaction between old roots and new developments in flamenco. The programme includes cantes flamencos that have travelled from Andalucía into South American folklore and back. But also chaconnes and marionas that crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the very first Spanish guitar books from the 17^th century. And a madrigal by Monteverdi in which the chords are strikingly similar to those seen in old siguiriyas, tientos and tangos. From Catalonia we hear this in Christmas song ‘El cant dels ocells’, the song of the birds, made world famous by Pablo Casal. Fly with us to far-off climes!
