Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was the most important Protestant composer of his era. Although at the time he was greatly admired, he later fell between two stools and was consigned to oblivion. This concert is proof that this is undeserved. No longer baroque but not yet classical, in places his work already heralds a distant future. This is borne out by ‘Die letzten Leiden des Erlösers’, a passion narrative which closely resembles a religious opera. It is not based on biblical texts, but on a poetic libretto. The focus is on the recitatives and elegant arias. Yet this cantata also contains a number of powerful choral passages. Perfectly suited to the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, conducted by the promising young Benjamin Bayl, and Collegium Vocale. And an opportunity for you to discover a beautiful unknown work.
