Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin & Jean-Guihen Queyras
Boccherini, Haydn, Pleyel
The Akademie für Alte Musik in Berlin remains one of the leading ensembles in the world of Baroque and Classical. The godfather of classical music, Joseph Haydn, should of course be included in this programme. His Symphony No. 52 expresses an intriguing play of original melodies and bold harmonies in a mysterious minor tone. The Cello Concerto No. 2 is suffused with a glow of balance and elegance, plus a touch of humour and daring. Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras takes it to the next level and also brilliantly performs Pleyel’s Cello Concerto in C. Luigi Boccherini spent more than half his life in the Spanish court. In his ‘Musica notturna delle strade di Madrid’ he portrays a sultry, vibrant scene of the Spanish capital. From the lively ringing of church bells through the hustle and bustle of the crowds dancing on the street to the sounding of the curfew.
