#LudwigToo. Had Beethoven been alive today, he would certainly be accused of boundary-transgressing musical behaviour. Many musicologists have already remarked upon his licentious imagination. The victims include: both Piano Trios, Opus 70. Proof: the ‘Largo’ from the so-called ‘Ghost Trio’. Armed with strangely fragmented themes, a gloomy palette and unstable harmonies, the suspect creates a ghostly atmosphere. The accused is also charged with the unwanted intimacies of the dissonant F - later resolved - in the first part. Lawyers Faust, Queyras and Melnikov offer a firm retort to the insinuations about their client. The facts set out in the defence are so convincing that there is a plea in absentia for acquittal. You too, as a listener on the witness bench, will agree that this kind of boundary-transgressing behaviour should never come to an end.
