The past is catching up with the present: with its historically grounded approach, Anima Eterna is travelling forward in time. Once conceived as a baroque ensemble, for the past few years it has increasingly been focussing on the cast-iron repertoire of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
After internationally acclaimed 'restorations' of Debussy and Ravel, van Immerseel's current fascination is the 'Carmina Burana'. A medieval collection of dissolute songs in Latin inspired Carl Orff to create the most popular concert piece of the last century. This new interpretation has involved immensely hard work, and a real voyage of discovery for van Immerseel. Once again, he has moved heaven and earth to find the exact score, instruments and playing methods that Orff had intended. So that you can experience Orff's voice as authentically as possible.
We're curious to see whether van Immerseel will take on the complete version. As, according to the subtitle 'Cantiones profanæ cantoribus et choris cantandæ comitantibus instrumentis atque imaginibus magicis' (Worldly songs for soloists and choir with instrumental accompaniment and with magic images), Orff also foresaw a visual element.
Either way, you can be sure of a truly bewitching spectacle of abundant music and sound!
