By playing the music of Johann Strauss, van Immerseel and his orchestra, Anima Eterna, are returning to their old secret passion. In 1999, the otherwise strict van Immerseel won over friend and foe with his graceful waltzes and jaunty polkas. Naturally, true to his reputation, in-depth historical research preceded this project. Authentic period instruments were dusted down; the appropriate bows selected. They even danced! Just to get it right.
In Brahms' Second Piano Concerto, van Immerseel will not himself be seated at the piano, but will hand the role over to the soloist, the Dutchman Ronald Brautigam. Fifteen years ago, when Brautigam discovered the piano, he immediately took the time to revive his view of the classics. With Brahms, he shifted his horizons in the direction of the romantics. Without doubt, these two piano pioneers will again present astounding interpretations, making you re-think them, and perhaps even creating controversy.
