Anoushka Shankar makes music and film, transcends genres and moves effortlessly between classical and contemporary, acoustic and electronic. As a connecting figure and passionate activist, she attaches importance to her Indian roots as well as to the richness of the musical world. Her work feels as personal as it is vulnerable. She has mastered the sitar to perfection and, under the guidance of her father Pandit Ravi Shankar, was introduced to classical Indian music when she was nine years old. She gradually developed her own, highly diverse musical language and began working with pop stars, orchestras and producers of electronic music. Shankar has had several Grammy nominations and has released albums in a variety of styles. She has collaborated with artists including Manu Delago, M.I.A., the Metropole Orkest, Arooj Aftab and Nils Frahm. At DE SINGEL - together with her quintet - she plays recent and older work moving between jazz, ragas and dreamy soundscapes.
