Antwerp Jazz Orchestra olv. Bert Joris
featuring Joshua Redman, sax
The Antwerp Jazz Orchestra was put together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Jazz Department at Antwerp's Royal Conservatoire. This orchestra, with its international line-up, is made up of former and present students and jazz teachers from the Conservatoire, joined by the best talent from the Conservatoires of Maastricht, Amsterdam and Helsinki. It is headed by the teacher, trumpeter and composer/arranger Bert Joris.
As its guest soloist, the orchestra is inviting no one less than the American saxophone virtuoso Joshua Redman. He has been right at the top of the international jazz scene for more than 20 years. This is apparent from his extensive discography, both as a leader and a sideman. Seven former students took up the challenge of writing a big band arrangement, under the expert guidance of Bert Joris, of one of Redman's many works. As a soloist, Redman will do full justice to the compositions and arrangements by Bert Joris' former students.
You will be amazed by the talented performers and writers who are slowly building up a reputation in Belgium and Europe. You will be hearing many of the names of the performers for the first time, but definitely not the last time!
Jam session after the concert in the Conservatoire Club.
