From the dancing fingers of the Jussen brothers on two pianos, you can look forward to a beautifully choreographed programme in a French sphere. With masterpieces from Maurice Ravel and beautiful ballet music from Florent Schmitt. Perfectly suited to conductor Jaime Martín.
Maurice Ravel reads aloud from the ‘Tales of Mother Goose’. His musical arrangements of these fairy tales from 1697 are a wonderful expression of childish fantasy and naivety. You also hear Arthur and Lucas Jussen – who have blossomed from child prodigies into master pianists – at work in Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra, a delectable example of this unusual genre. Before paying homage to the Viennese waltz, the orchestra gears up for Shakespeare’s ‘Antony and Cleopatra’ in a musical version by the French composer Florent Schmitt, who in this suite proves herself to be as sophisticated an orchestrator as his contemporary Ravel.
