Volodos offers captivating virtuosity in masterpieces by Schumann, Liszt, and Schubert.
Arcadi Volodos continues to be a wonderful pianist. He is every bit at home playing cheerful jazz improvisations as he is performing elaborate classical works. At a technical level, he can handle anything. He is known for playing the most difficult piano works and transcripts without problems and with great conviction. Many consider him to be the greatest pianist ever, which is why he is sometimes called the new Horowitz. This is an honorary title that fails to do him justice. Volodos’ playing has a highly idiosyncratic character and can be distinguished from thousands of others by the true afficionado.
At DE SINGEL, Volodos tells of a musical paternity with his keys: in four compositions, two by Schubert and two transcriptions by Liszt, we hear a sonorous legacy reverberate. Schubert's fragile notes intertwine with Liszt's gossamer readings on Volodos's keyboard - a kinship that can only be captured in sound.
