Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras travels the globe with the musicians of the Atlas Ensemble and their special string and wind instruments. In a sound mosaic lasting over an hour, composer Joël Bons links the musical nomads’ musical worlds and Queyras acts as their guide. He encounters the renowned Indian sarangi master Dhruba Ghosh, the kamancha virtuoso Elshan Mansurov, the Chinese sheng phenomenon Wu Wei, the Iranian setar player Kiya Tabassian, and the Japanse sho sorceress Naomi Sato. All are members of the 19-strong Atlas Ensemble who create a unique sound combination with classical Western instruments and traditional instruments from Asia.
Joël Bons’ ‘Nomaden’ was commissioned by the Cello Biënnale Amsterdam and in 2016 was enthusiastically received by press and public alike.
