Barokorkest B'Rock & Balthasar-Neumann-Chor olv. Ivor Bolton
Bach, Hohe Messe
At the end of his life, Bach only worked on large-scale and systematic projects. He drew the first outlines of the romantic ideal and inner need was his only driving force. Thus, a great Catholic Mass became the last completed work by this supremely Protestant composer. Nobody asked for it, nobody commissioned it. The ‘Hohe Messe’ is exceptional and ground-breaking in every way. The effect is on an unusually large scale. Solo arias or duets alternate with concertante instruments and four- to eight-part vocal parts. This is the ideal playground for the unsurpassed combination of B’Rock and the Balthasar-Neumann-Chor. Amazingly versatile, Bach always finds other angles of approach and surprising musical solutions. The result is a unique monument built up without a reference point, as the final demonstration of complete mastery. A legacy for all time.
