Bart Schneemann Duo's
It takes two
The oboist Bart Schneemann, who originally hails from Melbourne, has been living in The Netherlands since his college years. He has, amongst others, played for the Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orchestra and the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble. He became the artistic director of the latter ensemble, a function, which he manages to combine with his solo carrier. Recently, he amazed the international music world with an exceptional cd, 'It takes two'. To tango - one would hasten to add, and indeed, with various duo partners, Schneeman takes on the tangos of Gardel and Piazzolla as well as the music of Britten, Bartók and Andriessen. Surprising is the feeling for style for the Tango Nuevo as well as the Tango Classico, combined with perfect technique in the contemporary repertoire. Schneemann and his gang have got it all: the tilt of Louis Andriessen in 'Vergeet me niet' - in which he plays the oboe with his left hand, while striking the piano keys with his right - the superb duets of Bartók with Jan Rokyta on the cymbalom. Schneemann is a swashbuckling musician whose confrontations are an absolute must.
