The Belgian National Orchestra and Collegium Vocale Gent are among those musical highflyers that make the designation ‘Belgian’ a mark of quality. And Annelies Van Parys is one of the most highly acclaimed Belgian composers. She likes to return to historical musical forms and techniques, which she then ingeniously translates into a contemporary musical language. She also took this approach for her brand-new ‘Requiem’, which is having its world premiere at deSingel.
Mahler’s Fifth Symphony is also packed with skilful compositional elements, and covers almost the entire range of human emotions. This will undoubtedly be perfectly suited to the orchestra’s new principal conductor, Hugo Wolff. This eminent conductor has already successfully led the great American and European orchestras and is now making Brussels his new home base.
