Between Worlds Ensemble / Avi Avital
Between Worlds Ensemble and Avi Avital present music without borders in all sincerity.
According to mandolin player Avi Avital, there are whole worlds contained in the plucked strings of his instrument. From Sardinian islands to Brazilian beaches, from Western Europe to the Far East. Avital regards it as a challenge to seek out the twilight zone between these musical languages. ‘After all, they are all dialects of one another’, he says himself.
Together with his Between Worlds Ensemble he thus wants to bring new voices into the concert hall. Traditional music from the Tartar empire or Klezmer from Odessa here flow effortlessly into music by Béla Bartók and Manuel de Falla, followed by contemporary creations by David Bruce or Fazil Say. This is chamber music without borders in all sincerity.
