Blindman - Musiques Nouvelles
Maximalist!
In the early 1980s, Thierry De Mey and Peter Vermeersch composed music for Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's epoch-making Rosas danst Rosas. Maximalist! was born: a classical ensemble with the aura of a rock group, flirting with American minimalism and rooted in contemporary European avant-garde. For six years, these composer/musicians set the Belgian, European and American scenes alight. Today, the paths of the five ex-Maximalists - Thierry De Mey, Peter Vermeersch, Eric Sleichim, Jean-Paul Dessy and Walter Hus - are as striking they are trend-setting. Their names are familiar to music lovers. At the end of 2003, they were reunited on stage with the music of Maximalist! during a unique concert with BL!NDMAN. It was an experience that left them wanting more.
Now Jean-Paul Dessy, conductor of the ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, and Eric Sleichim, founder and inspirational force behind BL!NDMAN, are joining forces in a new concert, dedicated entirely to the Maximalist! composers. Each of them will write a new work to be performed by Musiques Nouvelles and BL!NDMAN, featuring violin, viola, two cellos, piano, percussion, a saxophone quartet and electronic manipulation.
