Boris Berezovski could be called the 'coolest' pianist around. Two seasons ago, with a seemingly nonchalant flick of the wrist, he performed Chopin's wickedly difficult études - the even more difficult versions by Godowski - with ease and apparent calm. Unforgettable!
Berezovski's dashing fingerwork and accuracy assume almost unearthly proportions. What is most spectacular is how he succeeds in the finger acrobatics and makes the whole exercise look so unspectacular - no grand gestures or effects. It is not his intention to amaze the public with a display of faultless virtuoso bravura pieces - he does that in any case - but to set the bar that much higher in his performances. His outer cool is equal in measure to the depths he penetrates into the soul of the music. He always presents a crystal-clear insight into the score and an infinite store of sound colours. The perfect environment needed to fathom the essence of Chopin. Far beyond any form of sentimentality.
