Bram Weijters' Crazy Men
Pianist and keyboardist Bram Weijters dives into Belgian jazz-rock and fusion. His starting point is ‘Here comes the crazy man’, the iconic 1974 album by Koen De Bruyne, Kris’s brother, who met an early death. On it are four experimental jazz-rock compositions for an ensemble that includes three members of the legendary group Placebo. Think angular, classic 20th-century, synthesized soundtracks and funk-meets-disco. The current ‘Crazy Men’ are performers from Weijters’ generation who are now part of successful groups such as Dans Dans, STUFF, and BRZZVLL. They turn the clock back forty years with a selection from the Seventies fusion of Herbie Hancock, Marc Moulin’s Placebo and Michel Herr, plus a complete reworking of ‘Here comes the crazy man’. Bram Weijters has a colourful CV: as well as playing jazz with the Chad McCullough Quartet, he also collaborates with bands such as Jerboa, Dez Mona and Mauro Pawlowski. He has performed on stage in the US, Canada and Russia.
