B'Rock Orchestra / Evgeny Sviridov

Armed with a historically informed selection of instruments, B'Rock translates four centuries of music as if it were written yesterday. The orchestra is fascinated by the timeless tale of a mother who mourns her lost son. Following on from previous performances of the Stabat Mater by Boccherini and by Schubert, they now start out from the polyphonic roots of Lassus, via the baroque expressiveness of Pergolesi’s famous version, to contemporary settings by Schnittke and Auerbach. The latter Russian-American composer based her Stabat Mater on that of Pergolesi. We have come full circle.
