Italy-Germany - for many this would be the dream World Cup final. But in the 18th century, the two countries were musical competitors. B’Rock shows how much beauty this clash of traditions produced. In this encounter between Bach and Handel, and Conti and Corelli, we hear the results. Bach harboured a lifelong fascination for Italian music. It is thanks to him that Conti’s stunning solo cantata ‘Languet anima mea’ was preserved. In the exuberant ‘Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen’, his imagination was fired by Vivaldi and Scarlatti. In England, Handel renewed his relationship with the concerto grosso, which thanks to Corelli was immensely popular there. His Opus 6 raised the bar to a new height. If there is one ensemble that has the bandwidth to perform this fusion of traditions, then it has to be B’Rock. And the winner? That’s you.
