What could be a better birthday present for thirty enthusiastic wind-players from Willebroek than a concert with one of Europe's best big bands? Willebroek Brass Band is blowing out thirty candles and Brussels Jazz Orchestra is the cherry on their birthday cake. BJO have been a fixture at our jazz venues for many years. And the Willebroek Brass Band is an ensemble that can count itself amongst the very best in Europe. Amateur musicians side by side with professionals on deSingel's international concert stage? A musical adventure we're delighted to embark upon as part of our diversity programme. An association between a big band and a brass band, it's an unusual double-bill and a challenge to a number of contemporary composers. An important role has been reserved for both ensembles' soloists. Along with BJO musicians Pierre Devret and Lode Mertens, the jazz composer Bert Joris has also written a special piece for the two bands together. The live CD 'Dangerous Liaison', recorded at deSingel, proves Joris's skill at making fantastic compositions with unusual combinations.
