1h 35' In 2016 Erik Kriek published his graphic novel ‘In The Pines’. His interpretation of five famous murder ballads in five beautifully illustrated stories and an accompanying CD. Perfectly suited to Lynn Cassiers and Brussels Jazz Orchestra, which following the international success of ‘Graphicology’ (2012) wanted to enter into another adventure with an illustrator. Kriek’s illustrated stories were digitised, and the songs adapted and arranged for jazz orchestra. The music enters into a direct dialogue with the graphic novel.
This results in a performance in which video projection, haunting illustrations, dark stories, music and song intertwine. With a single common thread: an age-old drama with a hair-raising plot.
