Brussels Jazz Orchestra & Tutu Puoane
We have a dream
2018 will see the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s murder. The Brussels Jazz Orchestra is commemorating his death with a musical project about human rights. ‘We have a dream’ will offer fresh arrangements of existing pop, rock, soul, blues, reggae and jazz songs. The Antwerp-based singer with South African roots, Tutu Puoane, will be singing with a raised fist, a denunciation and a call for justice. Frank Vaganée and Tutu Puoane have delved into their record collections and picked out their personal favourites from the rich history of the protest song. From Stevie Wonder to Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone to Sting, and Rod Stewart to Donny Hathaway: all are powerful songs about injustice, oppression and inequality. The performance ends on a light-hearted note with ‘It’s not easy being green’ by Kermit the Frog.
