Brussels Jazz Orchestra versus The Big White Screen
Big Cities in the Twenties - Stille films met live muziek
Together with the Brussels Film Archives, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra has selected a number of silent films from the 1920s and asked several composers to write a soundtrack for each of these valuable archive works. Cities, both in Europe and the USA, are the thread that ties the programme together, though humour often plays a role as well.
Frank Vaganée wrote music for 'A Bronx Morning', a three-part documentary about life in the Bronx at the end of the 1920s. Gyuri Spies did the same for the René Clair film about Paris and the Eiffel Tower, 'La Tour'. And Bert Joris undertook of the score for 'Toto et sa sœur en bombe à Bruxelles', an anonymous French film set in Brussels. Existing work by Joris will also be used for Henri Chomette's film/light experiment 'Jeux de Reflets et de la Vitesse' and for the Laurel & Hardy film 'Liberty'. During this film concert, you will also hear a few famous musical themes from the silver screen.
'Brussels Jazz Orchestra versus The Big White Screen' will be a unique programme in which film, jazz, improvisation and orchestration come together on a higher plane.
