Kazushi Ono has a sure instinct for moulding the sound of individual sections and, in turn, that of the whole orchestra. The Guardian
Richard Wagner is often associated with the concept of the Gesamtkunstwerk, yet Alexander Scriabin truly brought the synthesis of the arts to life. In 1903 in his mystical Symphony No. 5, Prometheus: The Poem of Fire, he combined a grand symphony orchestra with a light organ. The colours of the light were to change along with the content of the music, although Scriabin did not specify exactly how this should happen. During his lifetime, this visionary work was never fully realised - until now.
The Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Kazushi Ono, allows Scriabin's revolutionary masterpiece to shine once again in a fusion of light and sound. Light artist Nazanin Fakoor adds a new dimension with her installation Rainbow: a sculptural play of mirrors, reflections and colour that translates the music into movement.
Introduced by Debussy's La Mer, Prométhée forms the magical highlight of the evening - a unique opportunity to experience this 'poem of light', which according to Scriabin embodies 'rebellion against God', as the composer intended. A rare and impressive performance of a milestone in music history, now to be seen and heard in the Blue hall.
