In 'Building Bridges', András Schiff gives young pianists a helping hand on the way to the concert platform. He is inviting three exceptional performers to give solo recitals in the great concert halls of New York, Berlin, Zurich and Frankfurt... and at deSingel!
The first is the New Yorker Michael Brown, who, according to the New York Times, is one of the vanguard in the revival of composer-performers. Because, in addition to being a pianist, Brown is an industrious composer. This is also apparent in his original programme choices, in which he links the classical repertoire with contemporary works and also his own compositions. That applies to this recital too. From Mendelssohn's Bach-like Preludes and Fugues to Bernstein's challenging piano 'Touches'. In 'Constellations and Toccata' you can hear what the nocturnal universe sounds like to Michael Brown's own ears.
