The publication of Vivaldi's 'Estro Armonico' in 1711 was a cluster bomb that caused a revolution in baroque instrumental music. Bach was so impressed by it that he reworked six of his twelve concerti. The excitement it caused at the time is still understandable to this day. Although some sections are still closely related to the concerto grosso, other compositions from 'il prete rosso' sketch out the now-familiar contours of the baroque instrumental concerto. Vivaldi immediately demonstrated the form's huge expressive potential. There are concertos for one, two and four violin soloists.
In this programme, the virtuosos from Café Zimmermann will be performing the second half of the collection. Their playing style is a marriage of technical ability and pure energy. Their enthusiasm always stems from their musical insight. When this combination is added to an almost telepathic understanding, then we have found the perfect performers for Vivaldi's opus 3. In principle, the baroque concerto can only be born once. Thanks to Café Zimmermann, you can be on hand to witness its miraculous and unreservedly joyful rebirth.
