After death life goes on. And life is love. Rejected in love, the woebegone lover calls out: “Viva la morte!” After hearing Southern Italian folk songs, Leonardo García Alarcón decided to take one of them as a guide for a scenic concert. The traditional songs seemed to fit perfectly with 17th-century madrigals and cantatas from the ‘Mezzogiorno’. As well as work from well-known names such as Scarlatti and d’India, Alarcón also dug up unknown treasures: Cataldo Amodei, Corrado Bonfiglio and Filippo Muscari. Alarcón pulls all this material apart in order to imaginatively reorder it in creative arrangements with inventive instrumentation. The result is a portrait of the heart in CinemaScope.
