The young Chineke! Orchestra from London was the first orchestra primarily comprised of ethnic minorities to break through in Europe’s great concert halls. With their enthusiasm and refreshing orchestral sound, the orchestra likes to explore uncharted musical territory. Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was one of the few Afro-British composers ever to break through internationally. His Violin Concerto is deeply rooted in Romanticism, but also allows the soloist an almost modernistic freedom: perfect for the talented young violinist Elena Urioste. Romanticism continues to reign supreme with the overture from Weber’s opera ‘Oberon’ and Brahms’ Second Symphony.
With Chineke! and its Ghanaian-German conductor Kevin John Edusei, a fresh breeze is blowing through the classical concert hall. Do not miss their maiden concert at deSingel!
